So here’s my little explanation of my final project.
What originally was meant to be a video emphasizing the skateboarding culture in Fredericksburg, turned into a skate video. It was supposed to be my introduction back into skateboarding. While that is exactly what it was, it simply turned into a full on skate segment. I took about four filming sessions to get all of the footage along with a ton of practice in the beginning to get a hang of everything again.
Let me just start out by saying when I first hopped on the board, I was INCREDIBLY rusty, so what I made shows a BIG improvement on my part.
I had over an hour of footage after i finished filming. How did i condense this into a little over 2 minutes you ask? Well I had so many falls and fails in the footage that I could make a video that would almost take up all of class time. The hardest part was organizing all of the footage into a way that i could go through, edit, and place tricks into the video. Upon picking each scene that would make up the video I already had an idea of the song I wanted… mostly because I had been listening to it on repeat while skating.
I imported the song into FCP7 and then placed the footage in afterwards. It involved a lot of cutting to try to make the scenes as short as possible to keep the video interesting. I tried to organize the scenes to match the flow of the song. I then made a series of cool cuts and transition to match the songs beat as well. I tried to make it so each trick was popped and landed in conjunction with the beat of the song as well.
I then decided i needed a cover for my skate video. Why is it called “Deep-Fried Twinkies”? Because they are delicious. There’s this badass place that I go to up in alexandria, va (my hometown) where you can get the place to deep fry whatever you want. Ya gotta have the hook up though.

I then used the intro from a Mac Miller song (Kicking Incredibly Dope Shit) and did some editing in audacity to match my needs. Please don’t listen to the song and and assume this is my kind of music, I hate Mac Miller.
With the song i had to mash together the choruses in the song to shorten the length. I think I did a pretty good job on that though because it’s hardly noticeable.
So how is this Storytelling?
Through this video I am sharing my progression in skateboarding over less than a months time. I’m sharing my story in a compelling format in which I incorporated visual, design, video, and audio tools to tell my story.
